Annual Trans-Wales Bike Ride
Each year since the club started in 1981 we have staged a Trans-Wales bike ride to raise funds for the club's charities and good causes. Over the years it has proved an extraordinary event with some frankly bizarre entries and large sums raised.
It normally takes place on the first Sunday in September which in 2010 fell on 5th September 2010 - this was the 29th time the event had been run. On the day there was an unhelpful head-wind from the South East, and most participants got a little wet during the ride. Despite the adverse conditions nearly all made it to the finish to receive their medals.
The event is not a race - it is an enjoyable (we hope) ride of 60 miles from Aberystwyth on the main roads to Kington. There is an easier option which starts from Rhayader and ends in Kington, which is a distance of around 30 miles.
We have decided to give the event a rest for a while, partly because the expenses of staging the event are becoming prohibitive, and hence the fees we have to seek to enter the event have become counter-productive. We will work on other events to replace this much-loved annual outing, and who knows we may return to this in the future.
